When last you heard from me, they had laid three people off in my department, and several others around the plant. The only common factor that anyone can tell is that at one time or other they had pissed off their superviors.
I mentioned that lay offs were usually volunteers first, then by senority, but not this time. In fact, I heard today from one person who TRIED to volunteer to go and thereby save a co-workers job. They were refused.
So, as usual, our plant's headcount was determined by our sister site in a city two hours north of us. My department was told that we must have a lower headcount than the same department up there, because we handle less material. They fail to take into considertion that the that department in their plant all does the same job function, and are all located in the same building. My department covers three different functions in four buildings. By losing three people we are in a world of hurt.
And the cherry on top of the ice cream came today.
Our plant has been ordered to change over to a new computer system by the first of October. Everyone has been ordered to have MANDITORY training two hours a day for the next month. Also, because of this new computer system, we need to do X amount of data clean-up.
So, our team lead (our supervisor was too chicken to tell us himself) told us that starting tomorrow, and until AT LEAST Labor Day weekend, and maybe longer, we are on MANDITORY 10 hour days Monday thru Friday, 8 hours on Saturday, and 6 hours on Sunday.
It will make for a few fantastic paychecks, and lots of extra money when I go to Knoxville, but, damn, I'm 53, almost 54. I don't know if I can take all those hours.
So, I probably will only be lurking for a while, if I get online at all. Everybody keep good thoughts.
